For new visitors to the site, the little progress bars at the top are a bit misleading. They’re vestiges of when the site was in live production last summer. Now they’re just left there for old time’s sake and cause they look cool. And cause there’s two or three small tweaks I’ve been needing to do. But now with the addition of a fully functioning live archive, contact form, style switcher for special versions, etc. and a few design tweaks – April Zero is good to go.
Tonight is the SXSW Web Awards ceremony. Frankly, I don’t think I’m going to win and that’s not a bad thing. Twitter is huge and the other blogs are well written and well designed. There are a lot of things that I want to do with April Zero (both design and content wise), and I think this gives me something to aim for. This whole thing – panels, people, and all – has been very inspirational, probably one of the turning points in my web career — not because of learning new techniques or anything but just the whole environment and inspiration by like minded people who have been successful and accomplished. The Writing Better panel was pretty great, and has definitely made me want to start writing more from an entertainment and storytelling point of view – taking ordinary topics and stories and making them humerous and entertaining or just writing great technical articles that help others.
Some things to keep an eye out for over the next few weeks:
A small guide on waking up and some helpeful Mac apps to streamline the process.
Magic Guides™ (not really a trademark, just thought that seemed like a cool name) a small Photoshop enhancement type of thing to create great grid based layouts. Think Photoshop Guides on steroids.
My notes on SXSW panels that I attended.
On a sidenote, I’m very angry that my business cards were not shipped and received in time. I had completed the design last weekend and they should’ve arrived by Wednesday. Blame Mike. Or “overnight” prints. See the front and back. They’re supposed to have spot UV and rounded corners. If *knock on wood* they arrive on Monday, I’ll be giving them out to people. Otherwise, I am making special edition handmade, superlimited edition numbered ones right now.
Avalonstar bowling and Web Awards tonight – see you there! Or if not, see what it’s like!

Hey I resent you blaming me! Don’t forget my cards are in the same order too. And I’ve been calling the damn place every single day. I ordered them last Monday, and paid $100 extra so far to have it supposedly rushed and finished by now.
So far the UPS tracking number 1Z0E5Y940199869113 has said billing info received since last Friday, they said they shipped it, I’m gonna give them a call now and bitch them out. I’m just as pissed off as you.

Well, if it means anything, I think the cards look cool. :)
