I’m a big Spiderman fan and I’ve read most of the comics. And I think most Marvel movies (and I’ve seen every single one) have been pretty disappointing (few exceptions: X-Men & F4). The thing about Spiderman is that the comics are about so much more than just the villains and stuff. It’s a lot about Peter and his life and the dialogue (Spidey is hilarious) and the irony. If you just take a shallow layer of the characters and then make them battle on rooftops—well, that doesn’t exactly cover it.
As most reviews seem to agree on: it had great shots and CG, decent battles, flimsy plot and ultimately wasn’t as impressive as many were expecting.
There’s a lot of singing. MJ seemed pretty boring. Totally not the crazy exciting supermodel MJ I know from the comics. However, Gwen Stacey played pretty well.
The storyline was a bit too random and a bit too much. The movie, to me, seemed more like the content from 10 comics just attached together. Different villain each time, and an underlying continuation of some love problem or something.
The SpiderMan+Venom was pretty cool. Graphics were really nicely done. Parker goes kind of whacko though—that reminded me of superman and red kryptonite. Alex called it Emoman 3.
Fight scenes. The fight scenes were good. Sorta. Sandman wasn’t really that impressive (that sand stuff got kind of boring after the 3rd or 4th time), and battles with the Green Goblin weren’t as exciting as in some of the comics. But there were a lot of them, and they were all pretty good. The best parts, however, didn’t last that long.
The whole thing with Eddie Brock and Sandman was decent. The problem with making a movie out of a comic is that they’re two totally different mediums, with different rules and Marvel, still, doesn’t seem to get it. I hope Silver Surfer is better.
All in all, 7/10 — one of those movies you see just cause. The fight scenes will probably be nice on the big screen, but this might be good as a rental. So far, the best movie of the year is still, by far, Shooter. Though a lot are coming out this summer: Bourne Ultimatum, F4 Silver Surfer, Transformers, Pirates of the Caribbean, and more that I can’t remember.

Oh, and another thing:
Who on earth picks the villains? I mean, Sandman?? There are so many cool ones that they could’ve put…
Kingpin + Vulture, HobGoblin and all of his other cronies. That would’ve been a good movie, and the villains wouldn’t have seemed so disjointed. And then Spidey would have a whole organization he’d have to infiltrate.
Kraven. With all that CG and animation budget, it would’ve been pretty cool to have all the lions and snakes and stuff vs Spidey. That would’ve been more fun than swinging around and running away from goblin on a hoverpad.
Mysterio. See above. They could’ve done the storyline where Mysterio captures MJ and knowing Mysterio they could’ve done so much cool CG and special effects stuff…

Yeah I agree, I didn’t enjoy the plot at all. Of course the fight scenes were awesome… I think to come up with a really good plot is much harder than to come up with a cool creative fight scene. Movie certainly didn’t live up to the expectation! Yuck.
I also bought my bro a ticket b/c he was getting late, but there was no reception in the movie theatre and he ended up buying one himself… $9 down the drain.
