Mogwai – Auto Rock. From the Miami Vice soundtrack. Pretty horrible movie, but great song. (Thanks Neil!) And more soundtracks: Mogwai – I Know You Are But What Am I? From Wicker Park, apparently. The bass on it is great and they’re both very nice and soft. Great background music for working or something, no lyrics.
Runner ups go to Augustana – Boston for sweet piano intro (via Ryan Sims) and Augustana – Stars and Boulevards. Can’t say I like any of their other songs, but these are pretty great. The intros are really the best, I think lyrics and vocals can ruin music as often as they help it.
I’ve really started listening to more instrumental music, though good lyrics and vocals are great. Speaking of which, next week I will review Air’s new album which should launch digitally on the 19th. It’s pretty good :)

The Album Leaf and Saxon Shore are some other great instrumental bands that you should check out.

If you’re looking for some sweet instrumental stuff, check out the music of Paul Mauriat. He did a ton of songs from the 60s to the 90s, mostly working off other peoples stuff. He died a few months ago, but his songs’ll last you a while.
