As everyone has seen and heard, CS3 has been announced (a while ago now). But it’s not shipping until April 20, or at least that’s what I’ve read everywhere. I’ve seen some people with installations of it, so I’m not sure if that’s legit or how they got it.
After carefully considering all the CS3 packages and options, I think I will go with the Design Premium. I really just want Photoshop CS3 Extended, but the price of individually buying even one other program (illustrator or inDesign) with it would be practically the same as getting the package, which includes inDesign, Acrobat, Illustrator, Flash and Dreamweaver. I have also been on the fence about the new Mac Pros. While indeed I had been planning on buying one when the ‘new ones’ came out, I’m not sure if these are the ones I was waiting for. Not that I don’t want one – I really do and could use it – but I wonder if this is really the upgrade that I was waiting for. Basically, it’s just a new core at the top of a lineup rather than a total redesign or enhancement of the system. So better chassis, newer bus architecture, streamlined cooling system, etc. are all nonexistent. Of course, it might be good enough and perfect already. But I’d hate to get it now and then have them do a major revision in the summer.
Though if I do get one, I’d go for the dual quad core (or dual dual core) 3.0 with 4GB RAM. And an X1900. To power dual 30s (LED Backlit) down the line… And another 2407FWP for now.
And I wonder: how are the quad cores? Besides having 2x the cores, how would they make a difference, especially for my type of work. I do a lot of things at the same time (and I’m running 2 cores right now) so I suppose 8 cores might help, but how much more than 4 – in things like Photoshop – I know not. Probably something I should research a bit..
And though the porsche prank was a ruse, I really am going to get a car pretty soon. Sometime soon after I figure out what one. Hopefully by this month though.
