Today was a day off, so I figured it’d be a good time to head down to the LA Zoo to get some photos, and to get to use my 70-200 IS. I had gone earlier this year with my 28-135, but those pictures weren’t that good.
This morning I called up two or three friends, but no one wanted to go with me. So I packed my 70-200, 20D & 50 f/1.4 - and also decided to take my G1325 along, using it as a monopod and a tripod.
As I walked into the Zoo, I noticed someone with a big white lens. I went closer and we saw that we had pretty much the same gear - it was like looking in the mirror. He had the same Slingshot bag, a 70-200 IS, the new XTi and a BH-45 on a monopod. So we went around the zoo, talking about photography and taking pictures. It was cool to be with someone who had the same interests and gear as myself.
I took my tripod with me and I’m quite glad I did - I think it made a pretty big difference in the quality, even though the IS is good enough to handhold. And I tried out Abbott’s 1.4x teleconverter today - it was pretty cool but looking back through my EXIF, I’m not sure if I needed the extra reach that much - many were just 15 or 20mm over 200. Perhaps cropping would’ve yielded better results?
I’m also looking to get a new bag - because I can’t fit the 70-200 in while it’s on the camera.
So go check them out!

Yeah. Those are some good photos. Especially those chimpanzee ones :D. Overall, I reckon these were better (in quality) than the ‘LA Zoo - Take One’. You clearly have talent (and interest) in photography.
