I know this is a bit late for the standard new years post but hey, better late than never.
Between all the movies, music, designs and big changes this year, it’s going to be pretty sweet.
I don’t really watch that many movies, and I’m pretty picky - but this year I’m probably going to find myself at the box office a lot.
In order by awesomeness:
Finally the continuation of one of my favorite movies, the third and last in the Bourne Saga: The Bourne Ultimatum. Incidentally, I also love the books - which follow a totally different storyline. August 3
Spiderman 3 - May 4
I’ve always been a big Spidey fan. Not sure about the movies so far, they haven’t been as bad as some of Marvel’s others, but it’s hard to measure up to such an amazing comic series. Nevertheless, the graphics on this one look great and the storyline might actually be pulled off well.
Pirates of the Caribbean - May 26
I’m beginning to like May as much as March! The previous Pirates were amazing, and the cliffhanger at the end of the previous one was just too much - totally can’t wait to see what happens to our beloved Cap’n.
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer - June 15
Marvel has a great collection of stories and characters, and though they managed to kill many at first, as of late their movies have been improving. The first F4 was fun, this one should be worth watching as well.
Oceans 13 - June 8
I liked Oceans 11. Oceans 12 wasn’t that great. Not sure about this one, but we’ll see.
Harry Potter 5 (Phoenix) - July 13
I love the books. Don’t really care that much about the movies, as I know each and everything that’s going to happen. Still, it’s interesting to see a rendition of the books - one of those movies you end up watching by default.
And though I’m not really a big fan of gory or war films, seeing the new preview ( http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/300/trailer2/ ) for 300 makes me kind of curious. Sin City was pretty cool so I might go check it out.
Shrek 3 - May 18
The previous ones were cute. This one will probably be a rental but nevertheless…
I love music. And it’s great to find new and amazing songs. A lot of new albums are coming out by artists that I like. Here’s what I’m looking forward to:
Bloc Party - A Weekend In the City - February 6
I’ve already heard this one actually. It’s not bad, there’s one song I really like and the other ones are so-so. Not really my typical style.
Air - Pocket Symphony - March 6
Air has some pretty great stuff, and I’m really looking forward to this one.
Wilco - Sky Blue Sky - May 15
Not a big fan or anything but they have one or two songs that I like.
Kaiser Chiefs - Yours Truly, Angry Mob - February 26
These guys are pretty great. Haven’t listened to them for a while but I’ll definitely pick this one up.
Coldplay - They have a new one coming but no details as of yet. Late 2007.
Moby - Fall 2007
Interpol; R.E.M - These guys are great. No details yet, except something new in 2007.
Eisley; Ladytron; B-52s - There’s a song or two by each that I like, so I might check it out. Something, sometime, this year.
The Bravery - The Sun and the Moon - Early 2007
I think I like these guys but I can’t remember too clearly now - it’s been a long time.
I can’t really list all the stuff that I’m working on, but there are a lot of big projects - for both large companies and small startups that at least will have a nice site and might end up becoming real successful.
I’m hoping to get as many things as I can launched before SXSW, but by the end of the year I think my portfolio and client list should be pretty impressive.
If I have time, I plan to write a few more high-profile articles as well as revamp this site (hopefully to launch by April Zero). With such a high volume of projects though, one of the downsides is that I have much less time for personal stuff like working on April Zero or writing.
Finally being old enough to drive (well almost), I really can’t wait to get a car. It’s half just the vehicle itself and half the freedom and flexibility it offers. But one thing’s for sure - I’m totally looking forward to it!
Hopefully I’ll get my license and ride by April Zero. Still not really sure what I want, but the BMW M3 (E46) seems pretty cool. A shade of bluish grey with license plate “April 0” is a must.
I’ve never really traveled too much, not counting the occasional “we’re-moving-to-india” trips. But now that I can drive and all, that’ll change. First off, I’m going to South By SouthWest (SXSW) Interactive in Austin, TX. It’s in March and basically a place where all the big web designers and developers go and give presentations and party.
Then over the summer I’d like to go around the US with Mata Amritanandamayi. Something I’ve always wanted to do, and hopefully will finally be able to.
And then one of the biggest changes in my life, I’ll move out to my own apartment, probably somewhere near UCLA (at least reasonable driving distance). Definitely can’t wait for that.
It’s only been twenty-one days and it’s already been both very tough and very promising. The first semester is almost over, and bringing along its usual trash - essays, finals, whatever. Work has also been really busy, which is a good thing.
Cheers and here’s to a safe and prosperous new year.
