A2 Concept Art, Mark II

Some images to whet your appetite..

Icons for columns

A concept involving water, blue section

another concept

I didn’t really like the direction things were going, though the icons are usable and the column details are pretty much finalized. Ultimately I decided to go with a 3d design, like a white counterpart to Dragon Interactive.

aprilzero draft

with a blue sideblade

3 colored onion-skin design, peeling off as you go in

a 3d navigation system, y=time x=item

the columns page, in 3d, sans columns

the columns page, in 3d. holder sketch icons used. real ones should be similar but just fleshed out

drafts for an article page, shaped edge on sideblade

drafts for article page, no colored section

Not really sure where to go now, it’s a bit stuck. I sort of like it but I don’t think it’s ready to actually be workable. Perhaps some more illustration and texture is needed. Thoughts?

Why do you screenshot the web browser surrounded by a thick grey border instead of just taking a shot of the web page? -_-

Also, update dragon interactive you bum!

The screenshot improve going down with the best at the bottom.
I think you should defiantly run with the white alternate to the Dragon Interactive Site.
I would try to keep it simple, I really like the “Waffle Makers” design but think that the multi colored ones are a little too much.
Keep going I’m sure you’ll get there Anand!

I must say, I really like your designs. Personally, http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3027/2896799858_b582422293_b.jpg looks the nicest. The bright colors is entirely a personal preference, though. I think the categories are emphasized well by the colors, and it ties in with the logo.

I’ve been craving/dreaming of a white-base website design for a number of years. I’ve tried it a few times myself, but I inevitably fall short. Your white variations are the closest I’ve seen to something workable thus far. I strongly encourage you to pursue that direction - it will be a great achievement if you pull it off. Just be careful: most people don’t have their monitors sufficiently adjusted that they can detect soft variations of white/gray. You have to navigate that or decide those people are not your audience.

Also, if you know of any good white-based designs, I’d be so grateful if you can shoot me an email: lucite@ the google mail service.

Thax & god luck!

This is so incredibly brilliant… your work always makes my jaw drop and I can’t believe at all how critical you are of your designs. You’re absolutely the most inspiring designer I have seen online, like, ever.

So, I love what you have been working on. Thanks for sharing, it was very interesting to see your design process. I have only one request… please make available online more of your designs, even the ones you don’t use anymore. Like Dragon Labs for example. And even when you replace April Zero with the new one - please just don’t hide this one away… Your work is absolutely trend-setting and deserves to be seen even when it is not in use.

Thanks for all the comments guys!

For some reason wordpress stopped emailing me so I just saw all these right now. I’ll admit I’ve been stuck since I’ve posted these but I think we’ve just figured out the new direction so I’m gonna get cracking again.

xoxo

PS: Ilina I will probably mirror this current version in order to preserve content and comments and all. There is also a copy of the old Dragon Labs and a bunch of other old stuff up somewhere, email me if you want the link.

Guppy: I think it gives a better feel for what the page is going to actually look like. Just having it in a photoshop window with no frame can be pretty deceptive. I also have versions with different background colors (for both style and testing) but the grey is a bit less distracting when working.
